Dust Control for Grinding Concrete Floors
A large local concrete floor grinding contractor needed to be compliant with OSHA regulations.
A regional concrete floor-grinding contractor needed to grind over a half million square feet of concrete floors in warehouses around the Southeast. OSHA regulations for concrete and silica dust meant that the contractor had to do this while collecting the dust at the source. The vacuum needed to be rated for continuous-duty and had to be able to handle massive amounts of dust. Electricity was not available so we had to come up with a means of alternate power.
We recommended the DUROVAC Lifetime LTP 85 Portable propane powered vacuum system with 16HP Kohler engine and in-line HEPA Filter which is rated at .3 micron @ 99.97% effective. The regenerative blower was able to stand up to all-day duty. The external filter shaker also meant that the operators were able to clean the filter bags by shaking the filter-shaker handle. The 8” bearing wheels and 5” rear castors meant that the operators had great ease of movement.
The floor sander had a 2” diameter hose port that connected via 2” dissipative vacuum hose directly to the LTP 85, thus allowing close to 100% dustless sanding.
The owner reported that implementation of the DUROVAC Lifetime LTP 85 Portable propane powered vacuum was a success and that the company was able to finish the contract ahead of time and under budget. they have since won other contracts around the Southeast based on their ability to grind large concrete floors and still stay in compliance with OSHA and local regulations for concrete and silica dust.
